UBA transfer code

UBA puts the account number before the amount, the reverse of GTBank and First Bank. Get the order wrong and the menu rejects the request. *919*3* is for UBA-to-UBA, *919*4* is for other banks, and UBA's own blog puts the daily USSD limit at ₦1 million.

Sending to a microfinance bank, insurer or fintech wallet such as OPay uses a separate menu, *919*6#. Many people try *919*4# first and can't find the recipient's institution in the list.

So the UBA transfer code depends on where the money is going. Paying a friend who banks with UBA? Dial *919*3*AccountNumber*Amount#, for example *919*3*0123456789*5000# to send ₦5,000. Paying someone at GTBank, Zenith or any other commercial bank? Swap the 3 for a 4. UBA then shows the recipient's name. Check it before you enter your PIN, because USSD transfers can't be recalled from the menu.

Dial from the phone number registered on your UBA account. From any other line, *919# will only offer account opening. If a transfer times out after you have entered your PIN, check your balance or alerts before trying again, so you don't send the money twice.

UBA balance code

UBA's official code table doesn't list a separate shortcut for balance. Dial *919# and pick balance from the menu. We don't repeat the balance shortcuts that circulate on other sites, because we couldn't confirm them with UBA.

Using *919# without an ATM card

You can open a UBA account on *919*20# with no card at all. UBA says the account number is sent to your line, and to lift the limits you visit a branch with ID to link it. Until then, deposits are capped (UBA's blog cites ₦200,000) and linking your BVN raises the limit.

Leo: UBA's chat alternative

If USSD keeps timing out, UBA also runs Leo, a chat banking assistant on WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. It needs data, unlike *919#, but it can do many of the same tasks. UBA also lets you freeze online transactions with *919*9#, which is free.
