How to block a GTB ATM card
Contact GTBank immediately and ask it to hotlist your missing ATM card. Tell the agent if your phone or banking login is also compromised, because restricting an account is not the same action as disabling one card. Keep a record of the block request and report any unauthorised debit as a separate fraud complaint.

1. Ask GTBank to hotlist the missing card
+234 802 900 2900Call GTBank’s published contact centre and state that you need an urgent lost/stolen card block. ‘Hotlist’ is the card-disable request; ask the agent to confirm which card and channels are affected. Flag unfamiliar transactions immediately and obtain a case reference. This is an official contact-centre number, not a separately labelled fraud hotline.

GTBank’s USSD emergency method may be an account restriction rather than a card-only action. Use the reviewed row to check its scope and requirements. If the whole account is at risk, tell the contact centre that you need both the account protected and the missing card disabled.
Do not test the old card with a small purchase to see whether the block worked. Ask the bank for confirmation instead.
3. Use safe digital access without opening the wrong complaint
If you still have secure access to GTWorld, look for the selected card’s management controls. If your app offers a hotlist/block action, select the missing card and complete its confirmation. Menu names can vary; the official sources cited here do not establish a current universal GTWorld hotlisting sequence, so call GTBank if the control is not clear.
GTBank’s published Account Details → Cards → Card History route is for reporting a declined card transaction as a dispense error. It is not evidence that you have blocked a stolen card. Likewise, a failed ATM withdrawal and a withdrawal made by a thief need different complaints.
If your phone is missing, do not rely on an app session on it. Request restriction through the contact centre, contact your network to block the SIM and secure the banking login from a device you control.

4. Ask for a new card, then confirm any account restriction separately
If the card was stolen or its details may have been copied, ask for cancellation and replacement, not simply removal of a block. GTBank’s cited pages do not promise that every card block can be reversed or give one reactivation deadline.
GTBank advertises instant new or replacement Naira Mastercard issuance at its branches and self-service printing at listed kiosks. Contact the branch to confirm availability and what to bring. ‘Instant issuance’ describes that service; it does not promise an immediate end to a fraud investigation or the removal of an account restriction.
If USSD or the contact centre also restricted the account, ask what verification is needed to restore it. Receiving a replacement card does not necessarily complete that separate process.

5. Report a stolen-card debit as fraud, not a dispense error
Save the amount, date, time, merchant or ATM description and transaction reference for every payment you did not make. Tell GTBank clearly that the card was stolen and the transaction was unauthorised. Keep the theft timeline and, where safe, make a police report without delaying the bank notification.
GTBank’s dispense-error procedure applies when cash was not dispensed or a card payment failed. Do not choose that category just because it is easy to find in the app: it describes a different event. Ask the contact centre how to submit your fraud evidence and what response timeline applies.
Follow up using the case reference. Blocking prevents further exposure but is not a promise to reverse earlier payments. For an unresolved complaint, follow GTBank’s complaints handling process and then the CBN’s published escalation requirements.

Frequently asked questions
- Does an account emergency block replace hotlisting my GTB card?
- Do not assume the two requests are identical. Ask GTBank to confirm that the missing card is disabled and whether the account itself is also restricted.
- Should I report a thief’s ATM withdrawal as a dispense error?
- No. GTBank defines a dispense error as a failed or declined transaction without the expected reversal. Tell the contact centre that the withdrawal was unauthorised and request the fraud reporting process.
