What the Access Bank code is used for

The 3-digit code identifies Access Bank as a bank, not a branch. You'll see it on manual transfer and payment forms, in the bulk payment files businesses upload to pay staff and suppliers, and in reconciliation reports, where it tells you which bank each payment went to. Everyday phone and app transfers fill it in for you when you pick the bank from a list.

Access Bank's code list also shows 063 against "Access Bank Plc (Diamond)", a code left over from Diamond Bank, which merged into Access Bank. For a current Access Bank account, use 044 unless your recipient's bank tells you otherwise.

Sort code vs SWIFT code: which one you need

Use 044 for payments inside Nigeria. Use ABNGNGLA only when someone abroad is wiring money into an Access Bank account. Access Bank's inflow instructions also list correspondent banks, such as Citibank New York for US dollars, that the sender's bank may need.

Not the same as a USSD code

A bank code identifies the bank in payment systems. You don't dial it. A USSD code is something you dial on your phone to bank without data. We haven't published an Access Bank USSD page yet.

Branch sort codes

Branch sort codes are longer and differ for every branch. We don't list them yet, because we haven't verified them from official sources. If a form asks for a branch sort code, ask your branch or check your bank's own documents.
